For all those out there unaware of the significance of today, it is officially Awkward Moments Day. Personally, I’ve never knew about this astounding holiday until yesterday, but it is perfectly suited to me. I would never say I take personal pleasure in awkward moments, in fact I even found it hard to stay a fan of The Office because of the incredibly well done awkward humor. My connection to this random celebration isn’t the enjoyment of awkwardness, but my continued ability to attract it.
I think back on my elementary school and high school days cringing at the choices I made, practically daring each moment to be more socially tactless than the one before. I’d like to say I’ve grown out of that or at the very least made it better, but in truth it’s more likely I’ve just become more accepting of my own awkwardness. There’s a freedom in that and it feels good, when I’m not overtly anxious about it.
So here’s to those awkward people. Take today to celebrate yourself!
